Majorie EATON (born February 5, 1901, Oakland, California–died April 21, 1986, Palo Alto, California), much influenced by artists like Diego Rivera and Hans Hofmann, lived primarily in New York City and earned a reputation for modernist figural work with bold lines and strong color with a cubist influence. She studied in Europe from 1928 to 1932 and in 1934, moved to Taos, New Mexico after having been invited by her friend and art patron Mabel Dodge Luhan. Of Taos, Eaton said "she found her soul… when I first saw the Indians in the Navajo's rising hills." She strove to give the viewer a sense of emotion felt from each of her subjects as she depicted them.
